While watching Monday Night Football this evening, I thought it might be fun to play around on the trademark website to see if I could find out if the Stevens brothers, who recently purchased the Golden Gate, had registered any trademarks for the soon-to-be-renamed Fitzgeralds on Fremont St.
An initial hunt to find the trademark for the Golden Gate (to see who they register trademarks under) yielded no results. A further search under the company name Desert Rock Enterprises II, LLC, which is the name Fitzgeralds was purchased under, yielded no results either. As I was about to give up, I searched just for Desert Rock and found a company named Desert Rock Entertainment II, LLC. Intrigued a clicked and look what I found.
On November 11, 2011 they registered D Bar, The D Hotel, The D Casino, The D Hotel and Casino, D Las Vegas, and The D. Yes each one is primarily listed as “clothing, namely, t-shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts, jackets, tank tops, swimsuits, pants, shorts, pajamas” but if you click through you’ll find that they are also registered for
- entertainment services, namely providing casino facilities; facilities for fitness, exercise and aquatic activities; gaming services in the nature of casino gaming
- hotel services; restaurant and bar services; providing banquet and social function facilities for social events, namely, weddings, receptions and parties
- poker chips, roulette chips, playing cards, dice
Even though the company names are inconsistent, it certainly feels like a smoking gun. I can only assume the D stands for Downtown, at which point it just follows in the footsteps of Downtown Grand (the re-named Lady Luck) in leveraging the Downtown brand for their properties.
